Went walking through the woods today and found some beautiful mushrooms. I call them Blue Dresden because they remind me of that kind of china/dishes. The real name is Lactarius Indigo or Indigo Milk Mushroom and they are editable or at least so I’m told. There’s also a young puffball that’s supposed to be editable as well. And I added a picture of these huge red glob fungi. I have no clue what they are, but the odor around them was pretty foul.
I’ve hiked around these woods for years and had never seen them before. I guess there are more varieties popping up this year because it’s been such a wet season. Nice to see you, Marissa. 🙂
I saw lots of different sizes, so I guess they look that way when they come up, Cynthia. The photo doesn’t do it justice. They were gorgeous just like blue china right down to the shiny glazed look. And they were shaped just like mini birdbaths. Got my imagination to working over time. I looked around for some faeries, but I didn’t see any. 😀 ❤
I’ve never seen a blue mushroom. They are beautiful, Elizabeth. Have never seen anything like those red globs in your last photo, either. I can almost smell them there over here. 🙂

Thanks! That’s exactly what I was thinking when I was looking at them. My son told me not to touch them because of the bright color. He though that was a sure sign they were probably poison. Then I asked a few naturalists and did web research, they are supposed to be editable. But I’ll pass on them all the same. 😀 xo
Well I did ask my friend Mr Google and he said they were edible but as I said i’m really wary re mushrooms…one of my neibours picked some the other week and when she asked one of the old thai ladies they said noooo don’t eat and they looked very similar to chestnut mushrooms so best to be very careful I think but yes the blue ones looked amazing , beautiful colour 🙂
We used to take those puff ball mushrooms into our little childish fingers and put them up in people’s faces and pinch them! Isn’t that horrible to admit? A real little dusty “poof!” would come out of them. Just imagine, Elizabeth, if our parents would have known. No “‘shroom’s” playing for us anymore! Ha ha!

😀 I looked them up and asked a couple of people. As far as remembering the name, that’s an easy one, Lucie. Lactarius is simply a mushroom with a sunk in top and indigo of course is blue. Some days I have trouble remembering my own name too. Thanks so much for stopping by. xo
I do like mushrooms, they are magical in, um more ways than one sometimes. It’s easy to say why fairy tales had plenty of them in…perhaps the authors of the particularly imaginative ones had a nibble in the woods.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a blue indigo mushroom. We have orange, yellow, white, beige, black, but never blue. The puffballs are common, we have morels, and other types that I don’t know the names of, but I don’t recall ever seeing one of these. Don’t think I’d eat it. But it would be fun to see in the forest.
I have never seen a blue mushroom like this before–it does look just like a bowl.
Would be too afraid to eat out of it though. The most beautiful mushrooms always seem to be among the most poisonous.
I’m not mushroom educated, so I would be afraid too afraid to try it. My mom’s lecture about not eating yard mushrooms would be playing in my mind again!
My mom warned us about wild plants too, but she took me gathering wild plants quite often and back then I knew what was safe and what wasn’t, but now I’d not trust my memory. So I am in total agreement with you, Mary.

I get those last ones in heaIf they were edible or even decent tasting, it’d be a bumper croup in the 10-20 pound range on my yard. (very woodsy)
