Blue Dresden Mushrooms

Went walking through the woods today and found some beautiful mushrooms. I call them Blue Dresden because they remind me of that kind of china/dishes. The real name is Lactarius Indigo or Indigo Milk Mushroom and they are editable or at least so I’m told. There’s also a young puffball that’s supposed to be editable as well. And I added a picture of these huge red glob fungi. I have no clue what they are, but the odor around them was pretty foul.

  4. What an interesting blue colour and shape for a mushroom. Is this just before it dies, or does it come up in that colour?

  5. I’ve never seen a blue mushroom. They are beautiful, Elizabeth. Have never seen anything like those red globs in your last photo, either. I can almost smell them there over here. 🙂

  6. I’m going to have to take your word that they’re edible Elizabeth. I’m pretty sure the puff ball ones we have aren’t and I’ve never seen anything as strange ( though beautiful) as the blue ones before.

    • Good morning, David. Hope you’ve been well. I’ve never eaten those types of mushrooms, but according to the web and a few naturalists I know, the Lactarius Indigo is editable. And the puffballs are editable when they are young and still look like golf balls. But I’ve never eaten one. 🙂 (((HUGS)))

  7. Wow an amazing blue colour, I am always very wary of mushrooms and it seems the prettier they are the more deadly but love the look of them 🙂

    • Thanks! That’s exactly what I was thinking when I was looking at them. My son told me not to touch them because of the bright color. He though that was a sure sign they were probably poison. Then I asked a few naturalists and did web research, they are supposed to be editable. But I’ll pass on them all the same. 😀 xo

      • Well I did ask my friend Mr Google and he said they were edible but as I said i’m really wary re mushrooms…one of my neibours picked some the other week and when she asked one of the old thai ladies they said noooo don’t eat and they looked very similar to chestnut mushrooms so best to be very careful I think but yes the blue ones looked amazing , beautiful colour 🙂

  12. I love that blue – it looks like it could glow in the dark. And the puffball one looks like a golf ball. I’ve never seen mushrooms like those before and there are a lot of mushrooms around here, but then maybe I just wasn’t paying attention. 🙂

    • Well, maybe you will yet, Sheila. I’d never seen the blue ones before. I see puffballs all the time. I still think the rainy weather is bringing them out. It’s usually pretty dry this time of year. Thanks for coming over to visit. 🙂

  14. Lucky you to spot the blue ones Elizabeth. They look lovely. What I want to know is who does all the taste tests to say what is good to eat and what is not ?
Have a lovely week my dear friend 😀 xox ❤

  15. So what I want to know is how did you know their NAME??? I can’t remember my OWN name, these days, let alone a name like “lactarius indigo”?!!!! Anyway, beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  16. I do like mushrooms, they are magical in, um more ways than one sometimes. It’s easy to say why fairy tales had plenty of them in…perhaps the authors of the particularly imaginative ones had a nibble in the woods.

  17. Beautiful muhrooms (as they are known in both a local takeaway and a grocery store on the same street near to where I live), but how does one edit them, apart from adding an ‘s’ in aforementioned example? 😉

  18. Beautiful mushrooms. I’m not keen on eating any type of mushroom but I love finding them. Wet weather does help! Hope you are coping okay?

  21. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a blue indigo mushroom. We have orange, yellow, white, beige, black, but never blue. The puffballs are common, we have morels, and other types that I don’t know the names of, but I don’t recall ever seeing one of these. Don’t think I’d eat it. But it would be fun to see in the forest.

  25. I have never seen a blue mushroom like this before–it does look just like a bowl.
Would be too afraid to eat out of it though. The most beautiful mushrooms always seem to be among the most poisonous.

  26. I get those last ones in heaIf they were edible or even decent tasting, it’d be a bumper croup in the 10-20 pound range on my yard. (very woodsy)
