Moved Eric into his off campus rental Saturday. It stormed and stormed, but fortunately we only got the wind and lightening until the last box was in–then it poured all night. We had to wait for the cleaners to finish up and the rental agent to arrive for the walk through before we could do anything. By then it was 5:00 PM, which meant it was very late before I was able to head home. I hate a long drive after dark in stormy weather. And this trip was even worse because of all the road construction. At least two thirds of the trip is under construction with those horrible barrels on both sides of the road. They narrow the road to where a car will barely fit, then put up the concrete barriers and reflective barrels sending you swirling through series after series of S curves. I swear it was like driving through a kaleidoscope. By the time I got home my eyes were spinning and my head felt like it was going to explode. Miserable.
There was a couple of good things about the trip. The lightening show in the sky was spectacular. And although I don’t usually see an actual sunset when it’s storming, there was one this night. It was a fantastic red glow all across the western skyline. Beautiful! If I’d not been driving I’d have been able to get some fantastic shots. Here are a few photos I snapped with my phone of Eric’s new residence and the last batch of baby blues for this summer. They look about ready to leave the nest.

Sounds like a grueling time, Elizabeth.
Best to Eric and the Baby Blues, as they both leave their nests.

Thank you, Cynthia. I’m not quite so worried about Eric this year as I was last year…I know he’ll do well. But I still worry. Hope your week is going well. 🙂

Ah, those wonderful construction barrels! Seems as though they’re everywhere whenever any of us set out to drive somewhere. Glad you got your son settled into what looks like a wonderful house and that you made it back safely through stormy weather and, indeed, those barrels! And the baby blues look ready to take flight for their own life’s adventures! 🙂

Thanks, Mark. I’m not sure I would have made it through the barrels with concentrating on the taillights in front of me. 😀 Good thing they didn’t crash.

Thanks for sharing Eric’s new diggs with us, Elizabeth. It looks like he’ll have plenty of space.
Ugh…I hate those construction barrels and when it’s dark and raining…so dangerous. I’m glad you made it home safe.
Those birds are so cute! xo

Thanks so much for leaving such a kind comment, Jill. I think Eric will be more content having his own bedroom without a roommate. Not to mention, a kitchen where he can cook. I hope him and his housemate work well together. I think they will if they can ever make a decision. They’re both so easy going and accommodating, they just keep saying, “I don’t know, what do you think?” LOL. Have a lovely day, Jill. 🙂

That’s funny, Elizabeth. The perfect housemate is someone who is accommodating. Hopefully one will speak up when they’re trying to decide what to have for dinner. We don’t want anyone going hungry. 🙂

Thanks, Eric. Not only am I thrilled to have made it home safely, but also very happy with the bluebirds this year. Three separate clutches from the same parents and all successful. Doesn’t get better than that. 🙂

The place looks nice (and very clean). Too bad you had such a bad drive back but it was worth seeing him settled in. Love the birds.

Oh, yes, Kate. It was very much worth the trip. I wouldn’t have missed seeing his new place and happily settled. You’re right, the place was spotless. Now if those two boys can keep it that way. 😉 When I spoke with Eric the other day, he and his housemate were lining drawers with new paper. What a thing for two young guys to be doing. Someone must have raised them right. 😀

Hi Elizabeth 😀 I bet your house looks lovely now. Could you send one of your storms my way. We’ve had no rain in southern Spain for months. Hitting 40degC tomorrow again ! Oh well ! Sunbathing on the balcony again. It’s a rough life ! Lots of hugs. Ralph xox ❤

Sorry, Ralph. We’ve had very little rain this year as well. Not enough to share. So I’m afraid you will have to continue with the horrible hardship of having to soak up all that beautiful sunshine. Such a hard life you have. 😛 Love you, sweetie. ❤ (((HUGS)))

Driving through a kaleidoscope, I love that line…it sounds like the best thing ever…if you weren’t driving half a ton of metal. The home looks great but enough about the birds’ place, Eric’s pad looks nice too!

LOL. The birds certainly seem to like it. And it was exactly like driving through a kaleidoscope. Eric’s place is just half of an older house, but after that tiny shared dorm room last year, he thought he was in hog heaven. 😀

So that’s what it is called? Baby blues. My child just left for college two weeks ago. And we will see her for her dance team game Saturday. I have not gotten used to this idea as being a “launch!” I keep thinking she will be back!
I like your little bird photo. And I like how you took photos. Nice post!

Leave it to you, Hollis, to catch the word play. You always do. LOL. I love that. You will get used to your daughter’s absence, but that won’t stop you from missing her. I missed Eric so much last year, I was pitiful. And now that he was home for the summer, it’s like the first time all over again. But we must grin and bear it, right? 🙂

Right! It helps if we have a hand in the “fixing up” or moving or something! We feel (needed is over used) We feel like we are still contributing to their growth! (Like we are…haha) 🙂

It is strange, I agree and very quiet. I miss my kids being here as I’m sure you do. But at least we can be happy we raised them to be independent.
