A Poem: Six O’clock

Six O’clock

Ten minutes till six,

She knows he’ll be home soon.

She waits, wondering.

Has she done everything?

Did she do it right?

Is today the day she’ll be good enough?

No, never good enough,

But he can be charming,

Until he changes.

Leave, she needs to leave,

Get out, before he comes.

Where? No place to go.

He’d find her.

Bring her home.

Desperate now.

Did he have some drinks?

A good day? A bad day?

Is dinner OK?

One minute till six,

Heart pounding now.

Slight trembling runs over her limbs.

He’s here,

Charming,

It’ll be OK,

Until he changes.

I'm a novelist, poet, and artist. I love books, nature, art, and gardening. I'm a rock hound and there's a photo of me with a cool fossil rock on my about page, I take a lot of nature pictures. The background here is one of mine. Unfortunately I recently lost my wonderful husband, but I'm grateful to have the blessing of two beautiful sons. elizabethmeltonparsons.wordpress.com is © Elizabeth Melton Parsons 2007-2017.
